Brian Guinn brings a wealth of collegiate and minor league playing experience as well as coaching success at the high school level. His professional career as a shortstop included playing for the minor league affiliates of the Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago White Sox. While obtaining his bachelor's degree in sociology at UC Berkeley, Guinn played varsity intercollegiate baseball all four years there as well as two years of basketball. Guinn then graduated in 1996 with a master's degree in sports and fitness management from USF.
After being drafted by the A's in June of 1983, Guinn's minor league baseball career highlights included three All-Star Team selections, Caribbean All-Star Team selection (Dominican Republic), Topps Player of the Month, four American Association Player of the Week honors, and captured three league championships. From 1995 to 2000, Guinn was then hired by the Arizona Diamondbacks as a professional scout-area supervisor where he evaluated amateur talent at 250 high schools and various colleges in Northern California. Guinn was also the head baseball coach at the Academy of Art from 2009 to 2014.
Wendy is a California licensed attorney who has been active in the legal profession for 20+ years. Her expertise in sports law, employment/labor law, business and real estate matters, has been honed over many years of professional and personal experiences in the law and in sport. A former professional tennis player, Wendy was a highly ranked national junior player who garnered All-Conference honors as a collegian at the University of California, Berkeley. She competed against several top-ranked professionals including Tracy Austin, Andrea Jaeger, Pam Shriver, Zina Garrison, and Lori McNeil during her playing career.
Wendy is co-owner of Shortstop Management, LLC, a professional sports management and consulting business co-owned with her husband, Brian Guinn, a former professional baseball player. Launched in 2000, the company specializes in youth baseball training and development travel teams and camps, but has also provided contract and endorsement related services to professional athletes. In 2006, Wendy was instrumental in initiating the Junior Team Tennis Program in the City of Berkeley. She has personally trained several top junior tennis players in the Bay Area. One of the most memorable experiences evolving from her tennis related activities was when she traveled to Houston with current touring pro Venus Williams and former pro Zina Garrison in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to meet with and provide donations to the victims housed in the Houston Astrodome.
In March of 2008, Wendy helped launch a California based plaintiff’s civil litigation firm specializing in toxic tort (asbestos mesothelioma), personal injury and employment law litigation. As Chief of Operations and Finances, Wendy set up firm infrastructure, including payroll, financial accounting, offices and web-based technologies, for this state-wide practice and was instrumental in bringing 2.5 million in gross revenues in the first year of operation. She is currently a tennis instructor with the City of Richmond and works as a consultant/legal advisor.
Prior to her work in private practice, Wendy worked in the public sector as an attorney for the federal government. While at the Social Security Administration’s Office of the General Counsel in San Francisco, California, she chaired the General Law Litigation Team and worked directly with the Regional Commissioner for Region IX as the senior personnel attorney-advisor for executive staff and regional component management supervising a workforce of 6,000+ employees. Wendy was also a certified Mediator with the San Francisco Federal Executive Board Mediation Program. She received numerous awards and recognitions, among them the Regional Commissioner’s Citation in 2003, the highest regional award recognition, and the Office of the General Counsel’s Excellence in Leadership Award in 2004.
Wendy received her Juris Doctor from Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco. She resides in the Bay Area with her family.
